Is this D&D?
Actually, this is Mutants and Masterminds, which is a d20 system.
Not sure how up-to-date you are on recent gaming trends, but Dungeons and Dragons recently (like, past five years recently) underwent a dramatic makeover and became 3rd edition, later 3.5. A generic rules system called d20 was spawned from this, and under an open license all sorts of games have been made using the same system.
It's kind of like having a standard keyboard; you can play a different setting without having to learn a completely new set of rules.
I think d20 in general is a superb system for the type of game that it is, but I LOVE Mutants and Masterminds. The structure is very neat but there's almost nothing that you can't do.
I post these stats so that people on the Atomic Think Tank can follow the story better.
I haven't played since 1983, so I don't know 3rd edition. It was a fun game, but the dungeon master would devise these games that last 15-20 hours. That's an awful long time to ask people to sit at a table playing.
Yikes! We play 4 hours once a week.
